Yet another Wednesday rolls around and it’s blood test time. Susannah has returned to work so Mum drives me down to the Lab. We get there and I realise that once again I have forgotten my blood request form so back home we go. And repeat.

I then collect a mountain of drugs from the pharmacy, topping up old trusty regular meds with some extras for the last round of chemo this week. I can’t wait for this to be done with. Today, apart from the obvious memory failure, I am actually feeling pretty good.

I join in the Dove House online Art Therapy class for the third part of the Te Whare Tapa Whā Project. This week the theme is Taha Hinengaro, or mental Health and Wellbeing.

For my third panel I draw sunflowers, my favourite flowers. The sky, read from left to right, represents negativity to positivity in the dark clouds changing to sunlight. The field of sunflowers turn their heads towards the light. I am shown in the bottom left with short stubble chemo hair. I also turn my face to the light. This panel acknowledges that although there will always be good things and bad things in my life, I choose to acknowledge the bad but turn toward the good. Kind of half glass full rather than empty.

Sometimes it takes me awhile to get there, but I will always try.
