Today I go to my first coffee meeting with North Shore Sweet Louise members. This is a non-profit group centred around people with Stage 4 cancer. The group of members meet once a month. There are about 12 people there, all women, all older than me. I sit at one end of the table and introduce myself to the people around me. One lady, Jt, who seems quite outgoing, leans over and says I don’t suppose you’re into photography? I respond with As it happens, I am! She moves closer and pretty much proceeds to tell me her life history, the short version at least, which is quite interesting. She tells me about the North Shore Photographic Club which I think I’ll take a look at. Something new, perhaps? Before I know it, the hour and a half is over so I say my goodbyes and leave. I only really got to talk to one person so wasn’t really able to read the room. I might give it another go next time, I’m not sure.
I’m knackered after socialising so take it easy at home for the afternoon. In the early evening Susannah and I go Downtown and meet Sister K after work. We grab a bite to eat at the Mezze Bar (yummy shared plates!) and then we go to the Pop Up Globe Preview night of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. It is a bawdry play; crude, farcical, and insanely hilarious. I pretty much belly laugh the entire way through it. It’s a great night out which we all enjoy.
One anniversary Susannah got me a print of the stars as they were aligned on April 7, 2002, which is the day we got together. The print has the quote With mirth and laughter let old wrinkles come. Shakespeare. He got it right.
