Radiation Round 15 – the last round! I meet with Dr MP who checks my now vibrantly red skin and prescribes me antihistamines for the itching and anti-inflammatories for my swollen throat. She says the effects are likely to get a bit worse before they get better but overall she thinks I’m doing alright. I will see her in mid January for a follow up.
Next is my final treatment – it’s fast and furious – I’m a total pro now. At the end of it I change and chuck my XL gown into the hamper and stack my sistema basket in the pile next to it – I won’t be needing them again. I wonder what they will do with the me-cast, I forgot to ask.
Next I briefly see a nurse who checks that I’m all set up with creams and dressings for my skin to keep me as comfortable as possible for the next few weeks while I heal and then it’s sayonara radiotherapy. I’m done! 15/15 rounds completed.
I’m tired but very pleased to be done with this phase of treatment. I know the effects of it will take a few weeks to get over, but it will be a relief not to have to travel to the clinic every day. I celebrate by going to the local pub quiz. Our team doesn’t win or even place, but who cares. It’s nice to have a beer, hang out with whanau and mark the end of this chapter.
Rads done and dusted.
