I wake early. I finally started to feel better yesterday and am almost feeling normal today. I know that the Cancer Clinic will call this morning and they do. The nurse says that my blood test results from Saturday show a further small decline in liver function and a decline in platelets but low neutrophils are the biggest concern – they are currently too low to receive chemo. She suggests I come in this morning and re-do the blood tests to see if there has been any improvement. I tell Susannah and then let Mum know, and Susannah and I make our way to the clinic. We are met by Nurse Stl who greets us warmly. As I get comfortable in the recliner she says I hear you are getting married! News has gotten out. She is very happy for us. Her enthusiasm for us is sweet and makes me smile.
My bloods are taken and we begin the hour and half wait for the results. When they come back they show that my neutrophils have bounced back enough since Saturday for me to receive chemo. Yay! Because of liver function Dr Sk reduces the dose of Gemcitabine to 80% but she also sneaks in about a 15% increase in Carboplatin which effects the kidneys not the liver so should be fine for me. Hopefully the combo will do some magic.
I’m just pleased to have any chemo today so I’ll take that win. I feel back on track. It always feels better to have a plan. I really struggled over the weekend not knowing what was going on or where I was at. There’s only so much uncertainty this girl can handle.
