Auntie L has arranged for me to go on a mystery date with her this morning. She picks me up around 8am and we head off. At first I’ve no idea where we are going but then as we travel over the top of a hill I see a beautiful field of yellow in the distance. I laugh. L has picked the sunflower farm. The funny part is that Susannah and I were planning to go there this afternoon with Sister C to take some photos. Great minds think alike!
L has gone one better though. She has contacted the owners and arranged for us to go in before opening so there is no one else there and we have the field to ourselves. We spend an hour or so wandering around and through the field of vibrant flowers, taking photos and just enjoying ourselves. The stunning yellow flowers all point their heads towards the sun.

When I first shared my Stage 4 diagnosis with one of my cancer support groups, one lovely lady sent me this – I think in reference to my Te Whare Tapa Whā Art Project post on October 11. Her message is very thoughtful and caring and it really helped me when I read it. I decided to take a photo at Cedel Downs that also reflected this thought.

L and I have a shared love of sunflowers so we are in a very happy place. We take some lovely photos.

The owners allow us to cut some flowers and take them home and Auntie L also purchases a couple of sunflower keyring for us. We leave as the public start to enter the field and just as the clouds break and it starts to rain. The rest of the day is drizzly so C, Susannah and I would not have gone there that day anyway.
I had a wonderful date Aunt L, many thanks.
