My friend CW visits. It’s time well spent. I tell her of my concerns that the cancer may have spread and about my upcoming appointments. Near the end of her visit I get a text notification from the hospital changing my Oncology appointment from Jan 18 to Feb 22. That’s 6 weeks away! What is happening?
Shortly afterwards my phone pings again. New records have been added to my Manage My Health app. I make the mistake of opening my app and looking at the lab results. There it is in black and white. My axilla lymph node biopsy has detected a metastatic carcinoma. Cancer. Spread. There is now no doubt. I am devastated.
No one from the hospital has called me to give me the results, How is it that I found out that I have Stage 4 cancer from an app? I feel abandoned. It seems that no one wants the hot potato.
